A large number of Jewish and several Egyptian journalists were arrested and held on security charges following police raids on their homes during the last few days. No specific charges have been placed against them, it was reported here.
It is considered likely that their arrest stems from their unwelcome interest in the activities of former German officers–called in by former King Farouk and retained by Gen. Mohamed Naguib–who are advising the Egyptian general staff on military reorganization and training methods.
Among those arrested was Henry Haim, head of a French advertising office here, who returned to Cairo just this week after a vacation in France.
