Attorney General Edmund G. Brown ruled today that the Bible may not be used in California public schools for religious purposes. In a long awaited decision, Brown held that the use of the Bible in classroom exercises “might well amount to sectarian instruction.” The Bible may be used, he said, for reference, literary, historical or other non-religious purposes.
