California State University, Long Beach received $1 million for its Jewish studies program.
The gift, from philanthropists Barbara and Ray Alpert, will endow a chair in Jewish studies for the 10-year-old program, Gazette Newspapers reported.
“This is quite exceptional,†said Gerry Riposa, the dean of the university’s College of Liberal Arts. “It’s really just an incredible time for this leadership gift.â€
