Vice-Premier Armand Calinescu last night was named head of the Rumanian Government by King Carol to fill the position made vacant by the death of Patriarch Miron Cristea. Calinescu is considered to be more moderate in his policy on the Jews than was Cristea. While Interior Minister, he tried to hold the extremists in check and is known as “a man of steel” for his fight against the Fascist Iron Guard.
