The Danzig authorities were greatly perturbed today by a call issued in Poland to boycott Summer resorts in the Danzig area because of the anti-Jewish spirit there.
The call was issued by the Central Committee of the Anti-Hitler Economic Campaign in Warsaw. The Summer resorts in the Danzig area depend almost entirely on Jewish patronage.
The boycott appeal discloses that anti-Semitic outbreaks have occurred recently in the Summer resorts of Zoppot, Brezen, Oliva and Gletkow—all under the administration of the Nazi-controlled Danzig Senate.
“In spite of the fact that in the Summer Jewish visitors to these health resorts are the main source of income for the local Germans, the Jews are being terrorized there and publicly insulted,” the Central Committee points out.
“With the Summer season approaching, not a single Jew must think of going to the above health resorts,” the appeal continues. “On one side Jewish honor is being insulted and Jewish life imperilled and on the other the German hotels are luring Jewish visitors with cringing courtesy.”
Emphasizing that the constitution of Danzig is being constantly violated to the detriment of the Jews and that the position of the Jews in the Danzig area has grown worse since the Nazis came to power there, the appeal concludes with the advice that Jews ought rather to patronize the health resorts in Poland on the shores of the Baltic Sea than those around Danzig.
