State and local officers of the United Palestine Appeal and the rank and file of the Zionist movement are called upon, in a statement issued yesterday by Judge William M. Lewis and Morris Rothenberg, national chairman and chairman of the board of directors of that body, to give their fullest cooperation to the Allied Jewish Campaign. The statement points out that the latter organization, of which Felix M. Warburg is honorary chairman and Paul Baerwald, David M. Bressler, Judge Lewis and Mr. Rothenberg are chairmen, and which aims to raise $6,000,000 for 1930 for the Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency for Palestine, has assumed the American share of the budget for that country, heretofore met by the United Palestine Appeal, which it replaces.
The statement calls upon U.P.A. workers and Zionists generally to attend the national conference at Washington, D. C., on March 8th and 9th, of the Allied Jewish Campaign.
Announcement was also made that Detroit is the first city to get under way for the new fund-raising effort. In response to an address last Sunday evening by Mr. Bressler, outlining the purposes of the campaign and its urgency, “The Service Group” of Detroit, composed of leaders of the Orthodox, Reform, Zionist and non-Zionist elements, agreed to raise $125,000 for the Allied Jewish Campaign in a “drive” which is set for April 27th.
