The Jewish Community Relations Committee of the Camden Jewish Federation has joined other bodies in New Jersey, including non-Jewish groups, in opposing a school busing bill pending in the State Senate.
Dr. Harry A. Pinsky, chairman of the committee, sent a telegram to this area’s members of the Senate pointing out that the proposed measure would “impair the principle of and threaten religious liberty.” The constitutionality of the bill has been questioned because it would extend public school transportation to children in the Catholic parochial schools and to all non-profit private schools.
Other opponents of the measure are the Jewish Community Council of Essex County, the legislative committee of the New Jersey Council of Churches; and Protestants and Other Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
