The statement of the National Labor Committee only technically replies to the editorial which appeared in the Jewish Daily Bulletin. The main question was whether the campaign conducted by the National Labor Committee is altogether justified.
The figures given in the statement of the National Labor Committee strengthen this doubt. Of the sum total of $85,201.80, more than sixty per cent, has been spent on activities like agricultural colonization, immigration and Jewish labor in Palestine, assistance granted to youth immigrants, etc., which are also those of the Jewish Agency. With regard to the amounts spent on education, we wonder how many of the contributors are aware that the schools maintained by the Histadruth are anti-religionist in spirit. If in this country Jewish schools conducted in an atheistic and Marxist spirit were to apply to the Jewish Welfare Funds for support, the chances of inclusion would be nil.
IS EXTREME DESIRABLE
It is a justifiable question whether in order to raise a sum of $117,000, an elaborate organization, the bringing over of delegates and an expenditure of $33,000 is desirable. The accounting contains an item of $6,496.25 paid out to instructors and delegates to Leagues for Labor Palestine and to the Hechalutz in fourteen countries. A careful scrutiny of this and other items of expenditure would reveal the fact that these journeys of delegates, etc., are largely used to strengthen the party organization of the Hista-
