Twenty-eight young German-Jewish refugees interned in Canada since they were brought here from England in July 1940, have been released from internment in order to continue their studies in the universities of Montreal, Toronto and Kingston.
Their release was obtained through the intervention of the Central Committee for Refugees in Canada, and the United Jewish Refugee and War Relief Agencies. This freedom was granted after a similar number of sponsors had undertaken to cover the costs of maintenance and upkeep of the students during the period of their studies at the universities. Another group of 62 student refugees will be released as soon as the additional number of sponsors is obtained.
