Henceforth males of foreign birth or extraction joining the Canadian armed services will be grouped together as far as possible in squads and barracks, it was announced here by the Department of National Defense.

The measure has been decided upon, it has been explained, to overcome difficulties in recruitment when men refused to enlist fearing that they would be isolated from those of their own race, religion and language. These groups will not be given preferential treatment of any kind, nor will they be formed into larger units such as platoons and companies, nor is it intended at the present time to carry the scheme further than the initial training stage, the announcement said.
