“An energetic, aggressive immigration program” was urged in a report issued by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, which reveals that during the first six months of 1954, 85,765 immigrants entered Canada, compared to 78,336 immigrants for the first six months of 1953. Jewish immigrants numbered only 786.
The report stressed that Canada should obtain a population of 30,000,000 by 1975, which cannot be reached either “through natural growth, or through the present flow of immigration of approximately 130,000 annually.” The Canadian Chamber of Commerce maintains that increased immigration “creates more jobs and more homes and raises the standard of living.”
