Strong criticism against the strike of anti-Semitic internes in the Notre Dame and other French hospitals is voiced by Edmund Turcot, editor of Le Canada, a French Canadian daily, who does not mince words in flaying his offending compatriots.
In a long editorial in which he condemns racial animosity and religious persecutions, Turcot states that anti-Semitism is a social monster making its appearance in troubled times. He counsels sane-thinking people not to lose their heads.
Referring directly to the internes’ strike, the editor states: “The revolt of the internes of Notre Dame Hospital and of their colleagues in La Misericorde, Hotel Dieu and St. Justine give room for serious thought on the part of those citizens who have lost their common sense to allow themselves to be ruled by mob passions.
“The indecent Goglu press and the mental abortionists who are its sponsors carry the responsibility for the disease which has made such inroads in the French Canadian organism.”
