Arrangements have been made by Canpal-Canadian Palestine Trading Co. for the purchase of $100,000 worth of Canadian asbestos and $300,000 of Canadian farm tractors for shipment to Israel, officials announced today. The products are being shipped to Israel on behalf of the Jewish Agency.
Canpal is handling the shipments and is financing them to the extent of almost a quarter of a million dollars. Five hundred and twenty-five tons of asbestos fibre are being shipped directly to a firm in Israel to be used in the manufacture of irrigation pipes, destined for reclaiming desert land for agricultural purposes. The tractors are going to the Jewish Agency’s Colonization Department to help expand the Agency program for new immigrants.
