The Canadian Government today confirmed reports that 250 Jewish refugees from the civil war area in China, chiefly from Shanghai, will be given temporary haven in Canada. The refugees will be permitted to remain In the Dominion up to six months while completing arrangements to proceed to their final destinations in other countries, a government announcement said.
The refugees will toe brought “by air to Canada on a “non-immigrant” status. safe first .group is expected to arrive within a few days, Saul Hayes, executive director of the Canadian Jewish Congress, spent some time in Ottawa to arrange for the commission of the refugees, while the Canadian Consul in Shanghai has teen instructed to consult with the Joint Distribution Committee representative there with regard to the project.
