Following intervention by the Canadian Jewish Congress, the Government of Canada has made it illegal to discriminate against Jews in employment and to stipulate “Christians Only” in advertising for help. The phrases “Gentiles Only” and “Restricted” are similarly illegal when inserted in advertisements.

The order prohibiting discrimination in employment on the basis of creed, color or racial origin was sent out by the Selective Service Bureau. Officials of the Bureau throughout the country were forbidden by this order to inquire about the religion or racial origin of any applicant for employment, Employers were also notified that it is illegal to stipulate the religion, color or racial origin of the worker to be placed in vacancies, According to Canadian war-time law, no employer may hire ony worker without prior permission from the Selective Service Board.
