(Jewish Daily Bulletin)
The Canadian government has refused the request of the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society of Canada to renew the grant of a concession for a specified number of Jewish immigrants to the Dominion. The department declared that while it is unwilling to renew the concession it is ready to grant the privilege of Order in Council P. C. 534 to unmarried brothers and sisters of Canadian residents, and to children of residents. P. C. 534 allows admission provided the Minister of Immigration is satisfied that the labor of the prospective immigrant is required in Canada and that the relative resident in Canada has expressed willingness and shown ability to serve and care for such immigrants.
The Society had hoped to obtain this privilege also for married brothers and sisters. As to refugees, they will have to come in under the same provision. The department is ready only to waive the passport regulations with regard to refugees.
