One cargo vessel loaded with 10,000 tons of Canadian wheat is now on its way to Haifa and another boat is now loading in Vancouver with a similar shipment.
The wheat was purchased on behalf of the Government of Israel and is being shipped under a policy of the Canadian Government Export Credits Insurance Corporation. Some $1,700,000 is involved in the transaction, which will be followed by several other orders for wheat to be shipped to Israel from Canadian ports on both the Pacific and on the Atlantic coasts.
The Canada-Israel Corporation, which is commencing its trading activities with these purchases was set up jointly by the Canadian Jewish Congress and the Zionist Organization of Canada to promote trade between these countries. It is headed by Samuel Bronfman of Montreal as president, Edward E. Gelber of Toronto as vice-president.
