The amount of $104,440 was raised by the Hadassah in Canada during the past eighteen months, according to a report submitted to the fifth annual convention of the Women’s Zionist organization which opened its sessions at the Royal Alexandra Hotel.
Mrs. A. J. Freiman, president of the Canadian Hadassah, reported an increase in the Hadassah chapters from 85 to 111.
By a resolution adopted by the Convention, the Hadassah pledged itself to support five funds working for the upbuilding of Palestine. In the future the Hadassah will contribute to the Jewish National Fund, the Keren Hayesod, the Agricultural School, the Safed Hospital and the Motza Convalescent Home. The convention also decided to open a new wing at the agricultural school at Nahalal in the name of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Freiman.
Mrs. Freiman was re-elected president of the Hadassah. The vice-presidents chosen were Mrs. Louis Fitch, Mrs. S. Kahn of Montreal. Mrs. D. Dunkelman, Mrs. A. Zelick of Toronto, Mrs. H. E. Wilder, Mrs. R. Rady of Winnipeg. Mrs. H. Singer was chosen secretary, and Mrs. R. Kates, treasurer.
M. M. Ussischkin, head of the Jewish National Fund, addressed the delegates to the Hadassah convention at a luncheon today. In his address, Mr. Ussischkin dwelt on the important role played by the members of the Women’s Zionist Organization in the upbuilding work in Palestine.
