The Canadian Jewish Congress has spent about $750,000 for the reception and settlement of refugees in Canada during the past year, it was disclosed this week-end at a regional C.J.C. conference held here.
The bulk of these expenditures were made in connection with the settlement of 1,000 war orphans brought to Canada by the Congress, and tailors and furriers who entered the country in recent months. An additional 210 orphans are due to arrive before the project is completed. These expenditures are part of the $2,500 relief program of Canadian Jews, which includes the purchase of relief supplies for shipment overseas, assistance to the Joint Distribution Committee, participation in the migration and resettlement program which aims at the liquidation of DP camps in Europe and the establishment of the DP’s in Israel and elsewhere.
