The Canadian Jewish Congress has called on H. Winters, Minister of Public Works, to sponsor the amendment of the National Housing Act by the inclusion of anti-discrimination clauses. The measure is due to receive consideration at this session of Parliament.
The CJC, in a memorandum, pointed out that the Canadian Government has embarked on an anti-bias program–specifically in employment–and suggested that it was equally important for the government to eliminate discrimination in the field of housing. The CJC stressed that while inclusion of such a clause did not mean that discrimination was widespread, there were a number of cases involving discrimination that could be eliminated by such legislation.
