The Canadian Jewish Congress, in a letter to West German Ambassador Kurt Oppler in Ottawa, expressed today its “disturbed feeling” over the cancelation by the Bonn Government of arms deliveries to Israel.
In the letter, Michael Garber, CJC president, said that he spoke on behalf of some 260,000 Canadian Jews, among them many who suffered personal tragedies during the Hitler years in Europe and in the postwar period. The letter noted that the “sign of moral weakness” shown by the withdrawal of arms aid to Israel, “disturbs not only the Jewish people but every objective person and nation for whom morality and ethics have any meaning.”
