Canadian Jewish officials were disappointed after their government appeared to shrug off a U.N. ruling that the school-funding policies of one province are discriminatory and violate an international treaty. In November, the United Nations’ 18-member Human Rights Committee decided that Ontario’s practice of funding the private schools of only one religious denomination — Roman Catholic — was unfair and “cannot be considered reasonable and objective.”
