Canadian Jewry has already passed its $25,000,000 goal for the Israel Emergency Fund and has now raised the fund target to $28,000,000, it was announced here this week. The original goal plus $250,000 has already been sent to Israel and indications are that another $2,500,000 in pledges is already in the process of being redeemed.
Most of the money still to be turned in is from Montreal. The city’s Combined Jewish Appeal has turned over $7,700,000 to the Emergency Fund and another $2,000,000 in pledges and donations is now being processed. Toronto has collected over $10,000,000 for the fund. The per capita contribution averages over $100 for every one of the country’s 250,000 Jews.
