The United Jewish Refugee and War Relief Agencies here today announced the allocation of $20,000 as an “initial step” in bringing medical relief to the hundreds of thousands of Polish Jews who are at present refugees in Russia. The Canadian Jewish relief activities are being conducted in collaboration with the Joint Distribution Committee in the United States.
In accordance with a plan worked out with the JDC, arrangements have been made to purchase in Canada certain of the medical supplies needed by the Polish-Jewish refugees in Soviet Russia. The articles thus purchased are to be sent through the United States to the Polish embassy at Kuibyshev, packed in bond and duty free. Certain surgical instruments manufactured in Canada will also be bought here for transportation to the refugees in Russia.
