Jean Marchand, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, said here last night that he will do all he can to liberalize the Dominion’s Immigration Act and “will struggle for the end of discrimination in this law.” He made that statement when he appeared as the principal speaker at a memorial rally, marking the end of World War II in Europe, held by the Association of Survivors of Nazi Oppression.
Emphasizing that his aim is to establish a Canadian policy based on “human law,” Mr. Marchand conceded that a recent public opinion poll had shown that 50 percent of Canadians fear increased immigration. “This situation must change,” he declared.
