The Canadian Minister for Urban Affairs, Barnett J. Danson, who will chair the UN “Habitat” Conference on Human Settlements in Vancouver in May, told newsmen here he hoped to keep politics out of the conference’s agenda. Danson referred among other things to the PLO’s expected participation in the conference.
Visiting Israel after a tour of several Arab lands, the Canadian Minister said he had met with many Arab leaders who shared his desire “to keep to substance” at the Habitat conference. He declined to name these Arab leaders but said: “I have met people on all sides who share this approach.”
Danson, who is Canada’s only Jewish minister said he hoped the conference would result in a “greater sharing” of Israel’s settlement and technological experience with other countries. He said Israel’s experience, especially in the fields of land and water use could be beneficial to many developing and developed countries.
