The Toronto daily “Telegram” has apologized to the Jewish people for inadvertently publishing an advertisement of a Miami Beach hotel which included the phrase “restricted clientele,” it was revealed here by J.I. Oelbsum, president of the Central Region of the Canadian Jewish Congress. The apology was addressed to the Congress as most representative of the Jews.
The Canadian newspaper pointed out that it is a matter of policy to reject such advertising but that since this ad came from a reputable agency it was not “policed” and the offending phrase was published. The newspaper promised that safeguards would be established against repetition of such an error. A copy of the letter was also sent to and published by the Toronto Hebrew Journal.
