Prime Minister William MacKenzie King of Canada has reiterated the readiness of his government “to do its part in a cooperative effort to deal with the tragic position of the victims of Nazi persecution” in a letter to Samuel Bronfman, the national president of the Canadian Jewish Congress, it was reported here today.
Mr. King also expressed the hope “that methods may be developed which will relieve the suffering of the Jews of Europe as rapidly as the circumstances of the war will permit.”
The Prime Minister’s letter was in response to a communication from the Canadian Jewish Congress urging that the government act immediately to relieve the plight of the Jews of Europe. The Congress suggested that (1) Canada admit a number of Jewish refugees, especially children; (2) the government take the initiative in organizing a system of feeding the Jews of Europe and (3) the government cooperate with other United Nations and neutral countries in any international plan which may be adopted to deal with the problem.
