A resolution condemning anti-Semitism, assailing the massacres of Jews in Europe, expressing sympathy with the “prisoners in the ghettos,” and hailing the activities of the anti-Nazi underground movements, was adopted here last night at the closing session of the joint convention of the Canadian Commonwealth Federation and the Dominion Socialist Party.
A report on anti-Semitism in Canada and the persecution of the Jews in Europe was delivered by Alderman Michael Rubinstein, chairman of the Canadian Jewish Labor Committee. J.M. Coldwell, who was elected president of the Canadian Socialist Party at the convention, appealed to the party’s members to fight anti-Semitism, stating that “the world can never atone or compensate for the sufferings of the Jews.” The delegates also adopted a resolution asking the release of Victor Alter and Henryk Ehrlich, Polish-Jewish Socialist leaders, who are imprisoned in Russia.
