Canadian Zionists will pay tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Archibald J. Freiman, of Ottawa, at a banquet being given by the Zionist Organization of Canada on Sunday evening, Nov. 18, at the Chateau Laurier, Ottawa, in celebration of the silver wedding anniversary of these two Canadian Jewish leaders. Dr. and and Mrs. Chaim Weizmann will be present.
Mr. Frieman is president of the Canadian Zionist Organization and Mrs. Freiman is president of Canadian Hadassah.
At the banquet Hadassah will present Mrs. Freiman with an illuminated album containing the names of Canadian Jewish women who have contributed towards a new building for the Canadian Hadassah Girls’ Agricultural School at Nahalal, Palestine, to be known as the Lillian Freiman Building.
The National Council of the Zionist Organization of Canada will mark the occasion by presenting Mr. Freiman with a life-size painting of himself by Hermann Struck.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Freiman have been prominent in the industrial development and social welfare and relief work in Canada. Both are on the committees of various welfare societies and institutions, Jewish and non-Jewish, and Mrs. Freiman for her work for the war veterans has been presented with a life membership in the Ottawa Command of the Great War Veterans’ Association, being the first so honored. Zionist activities in Canada were inaugurated by Mrs. Freman when in 1917 she toured Canada to, raise a large fund for Palestine. After the World War Mrs. Freiman went to Ukrainia, bringing over to Canada one hundred war orphans, placing them in homes in Canada. Through their representatives, Faige Hirschmann of Montreal and Ruth Davis of Ottawa, these children will present Mrs. Freiman with a silver loving cup and an illuminated address.
As president of the Zionist Organization of Canada and as Dominion president of Canadian Hadassah respectively, both are known in every Jewish community in this country.
Delegations from all over the Dominion will be present at the banquet. A committee of the National Council of the Zionist Organization of Canada is headed by A. Levin, honorary vice-president of the Organization and the Dominion chairman of the Keren Hayesod.
