The 32nd national convention of the Zionist Organization of Canada, attended by over 700 delegates and guests from all parts of the country, closed here today.
Rabbi Jesse Schwartz, national executive director, declared that the Israel Bond Drive in Canada exceeded the expectations even of the optimists, which is a “clear indication of the basic interest” of the Canadian Jewish community in the welfare of Israel, Some $7,000,000 worth of bonds have been sold in Canada. The total income of Israel funds, excluding bonds, during the last two years came to nearly $6,000,000.
Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, executive vice-chairman of the United Jewish Appeal of the United States, reported that over $223,000,000 was raised during the last three years for the UJA. Dr. Schwartz also told the audience that 72 percent of the money had been spent to finance immigrant settlement in Israel.
