Captain Yochai Bin-Nun took command of Israel’s Navy today in a special ceremony in Haifa Bay in which the newly acquired submarine Tanin and other naval units participated. Captain Bin-Nun replaces Commodore Shmuel Tankus who is retiring after six years as commander of the Navy.
The new Naval chief was one of 12 men decorated for sinking the Egyptian Navy flagship “Farouk” in the 1948 war with the Arab states. He was also active in Haganah naval activities before the establishment of the state.
