Captain Anthony Eden, British Foreign Secretary, in the course of his address to the House of Commons last night asked where Germany’s doctrine of race and nationalism would lead.
“Here is a great nation of 65,000,000 people in the very center of our continent which has exalted race and nationalism into a creed which is practiced with the same fervor as it is preached,” he said. “All the world is asking at the present time whither these doctrines are to lead Germany and whither are they to lead all of us.”
A number of newspapers in Germany, commenting on Captain Eden’s speech, pointed out that the Foreign Secretary’s reference to national racism failed to note that it was also the doctrine followed by Italy and Japan, according to the Havas News Agency.
