Captain Jacob Francis Por, skipper of the Zim liner, Israel, testified today before the Coast Guard inquiry into the collision between the Israeli passenger liner and an American freighter in New York Harbor last week.
The session was largely concerned with technical details. Capt. Por, a veteran of 30 years at sea, described in detail what went on from the time the Israel left its pier to the moment of collision. The ship’s log and other records were examined.
