Cardinal Gerlier, Archbishop of Lyon, and member of the honorary committee of the National Movement Against Racism, in a letter published in “Fraternite,” organ of the movement, denounced racialism and welcomed the efforts of all those continuing to fight against it.
“I great all those who, on the day after the days when we have known odious excesses, wish to struggle against the anti-Christian racist error, fruit of pride and hate, which, unrecognized the unity of humankind, wishes to dissociate the great family to which all men belong, redeemed without distinction by Jesus Christ,” Cardinal Gerlier wrote.
