Cardinal Spellman, head of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, has made a contribution of $1,000 to the 1951 campaign of the United Jewish Appeal, Sylvan Gotshal, chairman of the board of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York, announced today.
” The interest in the U.J.A. of the Cardinal, a leader of one of the world’s great religious faiths, should give hope and comfort to men of good will everywhere,” Mr. Gotshal said. ” The sense of understanding and mutual assistance among Americans of different faiths–which is exemplified in Cardinal Spellman’s action–has made and will continue to make our country the happiest and the greatest the world has ever know.”
