Cardinal Routeau intends to exercise surveillance over the new Jewish school board through the Catholic committee on the Council of Public Instruction. Beginning in September he will ask regular reports as to the progress of the Jewish school board.
At the last meeting of the Catholic committee he moved a resolution to that effect which was unanimously adopted. Although Cardinal Routeau claims that the Jews have the right to decide as to the education of their children he still wants the jurisdiction of the Council of Public Instruction over the Jewish schools. The Council consists of Protestants and Catholics only.
