CARE–Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe–today denied reports in the press here that it had been unable to deliver CARE packages in Israel because of “lack of government cooperation.”
Paul Comly French, executive director of the non-profit organization, issued the following statement: “We have no word from Emanuel Borenstein, our mission chief in Tel Aviv, regarding lack of government cooperation. Quite the contrary. He cables that deliveries are proceeding at the rats of 125 per day, which is approximately the same rate at which we are currently forwarding orders to him.” The organization’s first shipment of 25,000 Kosher food packages arrived in Tel Aviv on Sept. 16, and the first deliveries were made on Sept. 22 in time for the Jewish High Holidays, Mr. French reported.
