Cargo ships began turning away from Israeli ports as a dock workers’ strike entered its ninth day. More than 60 ships were backed up at Israel’s ports as a result of the strike. The head of Israel’s manufacturers association urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to intervene in the labor dispute, saying $500 million worth of cargo is waiting to be unloaded and that failure to end the walkout could force factories to shut down their production lines.
