A new deal for grand opera is promised by Max Rabinoff, managing director of the Cosmopolitan Opera Association, which opens its season tonight, at the New York Hippodrome with “Carmen.” Mr. Rabinoff, organizer of the original Chicago Opera Company and owner of the Boston Grand Opera Company has assembled a group of well-known singers and an orchestra and chorus from the Metropolitan Opera Association and Opera. There will also be a ballet trained by Alexander Yakovieff.
The staging is under the direction of Dr. Ernest Lert, formerly of the Metropolitan and now of the La Scala, Milan.
