Premier Menachem Begin received a telephone call from President Carter late yesterday afternoon to congratulate him on the first anniversary of the signing of the Camp David accords in Washington. Their conversation, which lasted about a half hour, was described as most friendly and of a personal character.
It was disclosed that Carter asked Begin to make on effort to speed up the autonomy talks with Egypt. The President also expressed satisfaction that the details of the Camp David agreement are being carried out to the letter. He thanked the Premier for the personal letter he sent two days ago in connection with the anniversary and expressed hope that the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt will soon expand to include others in the region.
Carter had a similar friendly conversation with President Anwar Sadat. The Egyptian leader received a message from Begin on the first anniversary of the Camp David agreements summing up the progress made in the last 12 months, including the ongoing autonomy negotiations.
