Casablanca Jewish Community Protests Against Arrests of Jews

A delegation of the Casablanca Jewish community has protested to Commandant Medboh, Governor of the City, against widespread arrests of Moroccan Jews, which began with the arrival of President Nasser of the United Arab Republic, it was reported here today from Casablanca. Nasser came to Morocco for the recent African summit conference.

The commandant promised to intervene, according to the reports, which also indicated further arrests including 20 students of the Yeshivah Neveh Chalom and its director M. Wrechner. The group was taken forcibly to the police commissioner’s office

The Swiss Consul in Casablanca intervened on behalf of Wrechner, a Swiss national children who has lived in Morocco for several years, but without results so far. However, the children who were arrested last week were released after intervention by Meyer Obadia, president of the Jewish Community, N, Montenegro, director of Ozar Hatorah, and other leaders. Widespread feeling has been created by the arrests.
