The Jews of Casablanca participated in yesterday’s nation-wide general strike and demonstrations against the French arrest of five Algerian nationalist leaders who were en route from Morocco to Tunisia. The Casablanca Jewish Committee cabled the following message to Sultan Mohammed V:
“We add the voices of 80,000 Casablanca Moroccan Jews to the unanimous reprobation of the Moroccan people against the act of piracy against the sacred guests of Your Majesty. The impressive common demonstration of Moslems and Jews condemns the foolish attitude of those who are still fighting against the Algerian people’s desire for independence.”
