For the first time in this section a Catholic prelate presided over a group in which all religious faiths were represented and to which reports were made by ministers of all denominations. The occasion was the annual meeting of the University Religious Conference held at the University Club here.
In addition to Bishop Cantwell, the principal speakers were Bishop W. Bertrand Stevens of the Episcopal Church and Rabbi Edgar F. Magnin, newly elected president of the conference.
Tribute to the work of the University Religious Conference as an instrument in bringing the students of the three local colleges in definite contact with their respective groups was paid by the speakers.
“Despite our religious differences,” Rabbi Magnin said, “we are all brothers and sisters engaged in a concerted effort to revive the beautiful brotherhood of men, to develop a love and friendly understanding and to encourage our fellow men and women to look to God for his wealth and love and understanding.”
