Denial of the authenticity of the report appearing in the general press recently that the Pope in a private conversation with a prominent personage had blamed the Jews for the outbreak of anti-church feeling in Russia and declared that the Jews were responsible for the treatment accorded to the heads of the Catholic church there, is made by R. R. Hull, Associate Editor of “Our Sunday Visitor”, a Catholic periodical.
The denial is in a letter to the JEWISH CRITERION of this city. No Catholic news agency has carried any such news, says the Catholic editor. The report he declared is the work of “busy-bodies who are at work trying to stir up enmity between Jews and Catholics in this country. “It is certainly wrong to lay the responsibility for Russian Bolshevism on the Jewish race and no informed Catholic would do so”.
