The New York State organizations of the Catholic and Jewish War Veterans will hold a joint Americanism rally on the Central Park Mall on Saturday afternoon on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the ratification of the 14th amendment to the Constitution it was announced today. Speakers will include Representative Joseph A Gavagan John H. Brady vice commander of the New York Catholic veterans and Jean Mathias New York commander of the Jewish veterans.
Mr. Gavagan in a radio address tonight over Station WMCA under the auspices of the Coordinated Boycott Committee denounced anti-Semitism as “dangerous to the existence of our democracy” and asserted that Catholics had “a concern for our own preservation in opposing the Nazis in their destructive anti-Semitic work in this country” Other speakers were Harry D. Gideense president of Brooklyn College and Miss Kirchway editor of The Nation. The Boycott Committee includes the Volunteer Christian. Committee to Boycott Nazi Germany the Joint Boycott Council and the American Boycott Against Aggressor Nations.
The Committee of Catholics to Fight Anti-Semitism announced that in has changed its name to Committee of Catholics for Human Rights because “we recognize that anti-Semitism is but one facet of the new barbarism which includes anti Catholicism and all other selective hates in its desire to set man against man in order to profit by the ensuing strife”. The committee will continue to publish its newspaper. The Voice.
