Captain Victor Cazalet, Conservative Member of Parliament, today urged the Government to avail itself of the services of refugees in the present war.
“I believe that practically every refugee is not only willing but anxious to serve the country which has given them asylum,” said Captain Cazalet in a letter to The Times. “Some are expert pilots. Many could join the fighting services. Others could contribute in work behind the lines.”
He suggested that the Government create advisory committees for each of the Czech, Austrian and German-Jewish refugee groups, with the Government retaining final responsibility.
“I am convinced that such a scheme would be welcomed,” he said, “by the refugees themselves and by public opinion here. It will give to the refugees the opportunity of joining us in hastening the arrival of that day when they will be able peacefully to return to the land of their birth from which they have been so cruelly driven.”
