Frank Stanton, president of the Columbia Broadcasting System, has quit his college fraternity after 25 years because of the fraternity’s bar of Jews, it was reported here.
His resignation from Phi Delta Theta was disclosed this week in letters received by fraternity headquarters and to his college newspaper, the Ohio Wesleyan. Transcript, at Delaware. The century-old social group’s constitution limits membership to those of the Aryan race.
Chapters at Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., and Amherst have been suspended by the national group because they had pledged Jews. In his letter Stanton said he wanted to be embarrassed no longer by membership in a fraternity with discriminatory characteristics.
