The Central Conference of American Rabbis put off until next year final votes on officiation at mixed marriages and CCAR affiliation with the World Jewish Congress. The Conference, ending its 82nd annual convention last Thursday, stood by its position of “discouraging” officiation at mixed marriages; the CCAR president, Rabbi Roland B. Gittelsohn, had asked for a stronger statement flatly opposing such officiation. The convention said it wanted more information before voting on WJC affiliation; Rabbi Gittelsohn and vice president David Polish had recommended the tie as the WJC “guarantees the autonomy of all of its respective member organizations.”
