At a gala event attended by President Yizhak Ben-Zvi, prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the world Zionist Organization, and other luminaries, Hadassah inaugurated here tonight the celebration of its Golden Jubilee. Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, was founded in New York, by the late Henrietta Szold, in 1912.
Jerusalem’s Convention Hall was gaily decorated as leaders of the Israel Government, the Zionist movement, and the City of Jerusalem, mounted the platform to open the Golden Jubilee ceremonies. A large delegation of Hadassah leaders from the United States had seats of honor, The leaders included national officers and board members of Hadassah as well as presidents of Hadassah regions and prominent chapters.
Earlier today, Jerusalem’s Mayor Mordecai Ish-Shalom tendered an official reception to the Hadassah visitors, Then the members of the American delegation were given a three-hour tour of the recently opened Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center, After a tour of Israel, the members of the Hadassah mission will participate in the highlight of their visit, the dedication of the 12 stained windows, created by Marc Chagall, in the synagogue of the Medical Center, on February 8. The celebrated artist is coming to Israel to supervise the installation of the modern masterpieces, and to attend the dedication ceremonies.
